My ears perked up when another character, Don Pedro (England import James Findlay Fraser), quipped “Speak Low When You Speak Love” which is the key song in the 1943 Kurt Weill musical One Touch of Venus with lyrics by New Yorker poet Ogden Nash. I am a big fan of both but was puzzled by Nash’s atypical romantic flourish. Now I understand. The song has become a classic, sung by so many greats, as did Mary Martin from the original cast.

Review: Snowglobe’s “Much Ado About Nothing” a merry staging of the Shakespearean classic
There’s a modest mismatch – but not as Shakespeare had intended for the unlikely, antagonistic couple: we longed for greater vulnerability, rivalling sharpness, and unprocessed chemistry which could have perhaps rendered the “merry war” a tad more combustible for fire. (Troublesome at times also was some unintelligible speech of the poetic and sophisticated dialogue – nothing to extensively quibble about, though.)
